Colloidal silver is a natural liquid mineral supplement found in almost every health food store in the U.S.A and Europe. It is much like mineral water, except that the only mineral in the water are sub-microscopic particles or ions of pure silver.
Silver has been known for thousands of years to have powerful, broad-spectrum infection-fighting qualities. Colloidal Silver has been around for long time. It was approved as an effective antibiotic over seventy years ago and has long been supported by many top scientists and medical doctors.
A hundred years ago before the discovery of antibiotics, colloidal silver was considered a ‘high-tech’ germ fighter and was used by doctors to treat many serious conditions, including typhoid, gonorrhea, whooping cough, tonsilitis and others.
The traditional medical establishment today knows little about colloidal silver and many doctors may caution against it’s use. It is actually a very simple and harmless product that kills so many different germs.

Without a profit incentive, no company is willing to invest the $100 million or more needed to conduct double-blind medical trials needed for official FDA approval. Colloidal silver is sold as a dietary supplement and there are many different products on the market today.
WHAT IS COLLOIDAL SILVER?
Colloidal Silver is a mineral solution containing mostly positively charged ions (atoms) of pure silver and a small content of ultra-microscopic silver particles suspended in a medium of pure distilled water.
As the particles have the same electrostatic charge (zeta potential), they repel each otherand this keeps them in uniform suspension throughout the medium - this is why it is called a colloid.

Colloidal silver is effective in minute concentrations, the silver ions penetrate all living tissue, bacteria and virus rendering them inactive.
USE OF SILVER IN MEDICINE
Silver has been known for centuries as a powerful germ killing agent. Ancient civilizations used silver containers to store liquids and the wealthy used eating utensils made of silver.
Colloidal silver was developed in around 1891 and was used to treat scores of infectious ailments. It was taken orally, injected intravenously, used as eye drops and as a throat gargle, and applied topically.
Albert Searl, the founder of Searl Pharmaceuticals which later became Merck, was a leading researcher and proponent of colloidal silver in the early 1900’s. In his book “The Use of Colloids in health and Disease”, he presents his findings on the curative effects of colloidal silver and reviews numerous articles published in the British Medical Journal and Lancet on the successful use of colloidal silver in curing disease. He states … “ colloids for internal administration, either orally or hypodermically, they have the advantage of being rapidly fatal to parasites – both bacterial and otherwise – without any toxic reaction to the host.”
Similar results were confirmed by eminent medical researchers such as Macleod, Sir James Cantlie, Sir Malcome Morris and Henry Crookes.
Silver preparations during these early times were produced by a number of manufacturers and were called by various names such as: Argenti Acetas, Albargin, Argonin, Argyn, Argyrol, Largin, Lunosol, Novargan, Proganol and Silvol.
The early methods for producing colloidal silver were quite primitive compared to the technology available today, The price was also very expensive with some products being sold for up to $100 an ounce (30ml).
Over 96 different silver formulations were in use prior to 1939, as documented by The Council on Pharmacy & Chemistry of the American Medical Association1, many of which were used intravenously.2,3
In 1938 cheaper sulfa drugs and later when penicillin became widely available, colloidal silver was forgotten. By 1970 the major pharmaceutical companies no longer produced colloidal silver and it was no longer listed in medical treatment reference books.
The most common silver preparations used today are Silverdyne, a germ fighting cream for serious burns and silver nitrate solution which is used in the eyes of newborn babies to prevent neonatal eye infections.

Silver in the correct "ionic" form Early forms of medicinal silver consisted of fine silver powder mixed in solutions and creams. These large particles worked for some applications but the particle size was too big to enter individual cells. Ions however are super-minute atoms of silver held in suspension in distilled water by their positive electrical charge. These ions are small enough to enter the cell where viruses hide.
The microscopic size of the silver ion allows easy passage into and out of the cellular tissues.
Ionic silver water looks clear and tastes like water. Other silver products appear grey or yellow because of their large particle size or additives.

HOW IS IT USED?
Colloidal silver is now commonly being used to treat many simple and more serious health problems, both internally and externally. It is also used in colonics, enemas and douches.
It is taken orally as a preventative to boost the immune system by eliminating harmful pathogens in the body resulting in faster healing.
INTERNAL USE
For maximum absorbtion coloidal silver should be held in the mouth for at least 30 seconds, swishing it around the tongue before swallowing - the ultra-microscopic silver ions will be absorbed immediately into the bloodstream.
Smaller frequent doses are believed to be more effective than taking one or two larger doses - maintaining a constant level of silver ions in the body over a period of time is considered the most beneficial way of using colloidal silver.
For problems of the digestive system and in cases of food poisoning, a much larger quanity (100 mls) should be drunk without holding in the mouth and immediately followed by drinking a glass of water to push the product into the area needed.
DOSAGE
Exact dosages have not been established and seem to vary with the individual - this is not critical as correctly produced electro colloidal silver in non-toxic at virtually all levels.
Most users report consuming between 15 to 30 mls twice a day of a 5-10 PPM product before food or half an hour after eating for general health conditions.
People with serious health problems are reported to drink 30 ml every 4 hours.
NOTE: Drinking larger amounts of water will help flush toxins from the body. Regular bowel movements are important too- try and exercise more. Eliminate refined sugar, refined flour products and saturated fats from your diet.
EXTERNAL USE
Apply directly to wounds, cuts, insect bites, burns, sores and other skin conditions - does not sting or burn, assists the surrounding tissue in promoting rapid healing. Spray directly onto the affected area and allow to dry – apply as many times as necessary.
Apply to dressing, gauze or band aid - keep moist with further additions for as long as possible. The longer the contact time with the affected area - the better and faster will be the results.
It may be used in the ears and eyes using a dropper or spray. Can be used in intimate areas for the elimination of odour and bacteria – gentle and non-irritating
Use as a disinfectant for hands & for any situation that requires the elimination of germs.
FACE Spray after cleansing or at anytime. More than 5 times a day is recommended - the longer the contact period, the better. For acne, use in place of your regular toner. Functions as an antibacterial, antiseptic and disinfectant.
NASAL Use as a nasal spray. Liberally spray as required or a couple of drops into the nose for any infection in the nasal passage. Use at the first sign of a cold, flu or for sinusitis.
EARS A couple of drops in the ear for infection.
INTIMATE HYGIENE Highly effective as a safe vaginal dodorant. Reported to be an excellent treatment for candida infections. Suitable for the most sensitive areas of the body, as a douche, enema or colonic.

DETOX REACTION
Sometimes a person starting taking ionic colloidal silver may experience what is known as “The Herxheimer Reaction”.
If pathogens are killed off too quickly, the body may be temporarily overloaded with toxins that are released as they die. The body may be unable to process and eliminate these toxins quickly enough causing a brief “healing crisis” with flu-like symptoms, minor skin rash, headache, fatigue, aching muscles or mild diarrhea.
This is not a bad sign, it shows that the pathogens are being killed and that the product is doing its job. All of these conditions should subside quickly.
Reduce the dosage or temporarily stop taking the colloidal silver until the “healing crisis” is over. Start again using smaller quanitites then build up dosage gradually.
This is not a toxic reaction to colloidal silver, but a measure of the effectiveness in killing off undesireable pathogens in the body
PROBLEMS OF THE LARGE INTESTINE E.G. IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME & DIARRHOEA
If the pathogen causing the problem is active in the large intestine, this is one place where colloidal silver when used as normally recommended may not easily penetrate. This is due to the high absorption of silver in the small intestine, normal doses are absorbed before they reach the large intestine.
Drinking a large dose of Colloidal Silver followed by drinking 500 ml of water on an empty stomach should give almost immediate relief from the worst symptoms.
Reports of disturbances to the friendly bacteria in the stomach by colloidal silver are very rare – antibiotics on the other hand normally will require the user to supplement with yogurt or other lactobacillus products to replenish levels of beneficial bacteria in the stomach.
ARGYRIA Argyria is an irreversible blue -grey coloring of skin and mucosa due to taking silver that is not pure, but a compound, especially in nitrate form.
The FDA estimates that one would need to take 3.8 grams a day of pure silver to be at risk for argyria - an enormous amount - at 5 ppm it would require drinking 760 litres a day, every day !
Dr A. Schauss of John Hopkins University writes: “ We could not locate a single case of orally consumed colloidal silver manufactured in the last 25 years causing Argyria in our review of the literature”.
Synergistic Effect? Recent in-vitro research from Brigham Young University and published in the Journal of Current Science has shown that when colloidal silver is added to certain prescription antibiotic drugs, the infection-fighting qualities of the drugs are greatly increased against multiple drug resistant pathogens.
This has led to speculation that silver will soon be added to antibiotic drugs in order to enhance their effectiveness when dealing with drug-resistant pathogens!
WHY IS IT NEEDED?
ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT BACTERIA A serious problem today is that bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics -bacteria do not develop resistance to silver.
Drug resistant strains of bacteria are becoming common - it is only a matter of time until we have diseases we cannot control.
New diseases are appearing at an alarming rate, many of which do not respond to treatment by conventional drugs or antibiotics.
Antibiotics were once very effective on a narrow range of bacteria and inexpensive to make. The medical community was encouraged to prescribe them exclusively, even though a given antibiotic drug will effectively kill only six to eight different micro-organisms, and in spite of the fact that these germs can eventually develop strains that are immune to the drug.
Assuming that our ancestor's diet used to contain trace silver, and that our diet probably has greatly reduced levels, there is a reasonable argument for supplementing with colloidal silver.
Colloidal Silver is a natural remedy designed to replenish trace silver missing in our bodies due to the depletion of soil minerals as a result of modern farming techniques.
Although colloidal silver is now much less costly to manufacture, it is mainly ignored by the medical community.
Due to the fact that it is not a patentable product, the large drug companies have no commercial interest in it, even though they are well aware of its power.
Conventional drug-based medicine often focuses on curing the symptoms, not the cause, and has only a limited range of antibiotic medications at its disposal.
Natural medicine will often find a very simple cure for a simple problem, getting to the root cause, not just treating the symptom.
Colloidal Silver has been used in natural medicine for a very long time and it is not a secret.
It is because society has turned a blind eye to this type of simple medicine that is at fault.
It is a well known fact that modern hospitals are dangerous places due to the presence of highly resistant strains of bacteria resulting from the constant use of disinfectants. Weaker germs are destroyed, but a few of the strong survive to breed hardier strains. This problem does not exist with colloidal silver.
The uncontrolled use of antibiotics in some third world countries where they are available as ‘over the counter’ medication, is producing strains of super bugs that are highly resistant to antibiotic drugs. There is a definite danger of future plagues because of this.
One of the real problems has been that people use antibiotics when they aren't needed, such as for the common cold and other viral infections. This has led to the proliferation of these drug resistant strains of bacteria. Viruses do not respond to antibiotics, so prescribing them is futile and should not be done.
It is estimated that 40–50% of antibiotic production is used in animal and agriclultural sectors, so when we consume these products we are creating even greater resistance to antibiotics in our body.
LACK OF SILVER IN OUR DIETS It is suggested that the lack of dietary silver could be responsible for the many ailments we increasingly seem to suffer from these days, from simple coughs and colds to the possible onset of major disease. Replacing the missing silver may be the key towards enhanced health and quality of life.
In 1940, Kehoe reported that under normal circumstances, the average daily intake of fruits and vegetables would provide between 50-100 mcg of silver as a trace element.
Since that time, commercial farm soils have become extremely deficient in trace minerals.
According to the Earth Summit Report, issued in 1992, the levels of soil based minerals in North America have dropped over 85%in the last 100 years.
HOW COLLOIDAL SILVER WORKS
Against A Virus A virus will invade a living cell of body tissue, it will take over the nucleus of the cell and alter its production and reproductive mechanism so as to replicate itself instead of the enzyme, hormone or other chemical the cell was intended to produce.
As the virus changes the cell for its own purposes, the cell reverts to a more primitive form of cell structure and chemistry. The oxygen-metabolising enzyme, or chemical lung, in the cell wall also reverts and is vulnerable to the effect of Colloidal Silver.
The catalytic effect of the Colloidal Silver inhibits the enzyme which then cannot function to bring oxygen into the cell. The virus-producing cell now dies and is eliminated along with the millions of cells that end their usefulness each day.
Against Bacteria Bacteria, which are single-celled & primitive, use an enzyme, or chemical lung, for their oxygen metabolism. The presence of Colloidal Silver inhibits the enzyme, causing suffocation. The bacteria will be killed within minutes and without any effect on the surrounding tissue cells.
Against Fungus A fungus is a series of single cells having tiny tubes of the material of the cell wall stretched between the cells.
Fungi still exhibit that characteristic of any one-celled bacterium – a chemical lung which is immobilised by the presence of Colloidal Silver. It takes only minutes to suffocate the attacking fungus.
Parasitic Infections
Larger doses spread over the day, over several days, should interrupt the life-cycle of the tiny, worm-like animals that burrow through a particular organ.
These parasites reproduce by laying eggs which have the same characteristics of the oxygen-metabolising enzyme as the primitive single-celled bacterium. Without their oxygen supply these eggs cannot hatch, and die.

The dictionary definition of a colloid is "a substance that - is in a state of division preventing passage through a semi-permeable membrane - consists of particles too small for resolution with an ordinary light microscope, and in suspension or solution, fails to settle out and diffracts a beam of light." Okay, so what does that mean? Basically, a true colloid of silver will stay suspended in a solution of water and not fall to the bottom or clump together. Historical Background and Research
Silver has long been known for its special properties. The people of ancient Greece and Rome used silver containers for keeping liquids fresh. Through the centuries royal households carried on this practice by storing their provisions in silver containers. Privileged family members used silver eating utensils: they had their meals served on silver plates and their drinks served in sliver cups. Indeed, the skin of 'blue bloods' reportedly had a bluish tinge due to the minute traces of pure metallic silver they regularly consumed. In American pioneering days, new settlers traveling to the West would put silver dollars in their milk to delay spoiling.
By the turn of the 20th Century, silver was regarded as a proven germ-fighter. In medicine, a solution known as colloidal silver was commonly used as a mainstay of bacterial treatment. Although considered to be 'high tech' at that time, the type of solution used was technically inferior to today's colloidal silver solutions. One of the drawbacks was that the particle size of the silver never reached its optimum ultramicroscopic size and thus its highest levels of absorption.
Back then, highly effective colloidal silver was very expensive to produce. The pharmaceutical industry wanted faster-working drugs that were cheaper and patentable. In addition, when manufactured improperly or taken at hundreds of times the proper dosage with extraneous silver compounds included, a permanent skin discolouration called argyria could result. For these reasons, colloidal silver fell out of favour. Even so, prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet (1914) published the results of scientific studies and examined the many successful uses of colloidal silver.
In 1910, Dr Henry Crooks a pioneer in colloidal chemistry wrote that: "certain metals, when in a colloidal state, have a highly germicidal action but are quite harmless to human beings it may be applied in a much more concentrated form and with better results. Bronchial tuberculosis, Staphylococcus pyogenes, various Streptococci and other pathogenic organisms are all killed in three to four minutes: in fact no microbe is known that is not killed by this colloid in laboratory experiments in six minutes, [and] the concentration of the [silver] does not exceed twenty-five parts per million."
In 1919, Alfred Searle, founder of the pharmaceutical conglomerate of the same name, wrote in his book The Use of Colloids in Health and Disease that: "applying colloidal silver to human subjects has been done in a large number of cases with astonishingly successful results. For internal administration, orally or hypodermically it has the advantage of being rapidly fatal to parasites without toxic action on its host. It is quite stable."
Colloidal Silver Reappraised
Much later in the 1970's colloidal silver once again became a valued substance. Doctors at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, stumbled upon it while searching for effective treatments for burns victims, having tried many other medicines.
Biomedical research has shown that no known disease causing organism-bacteria, virus or fungus can live for more than a few minutes in the presence of even minute traces of metallic silver.
Jim Powell reported in an article, 'Our Mightiest Germ fighter' published in Science Digest (March 1078, pp. 59-60): "Thanks to eye-opening research silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine.
An antibiotic kills perhaps a half-dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. What's more, resistant strains fail to develop when using silver. Moreover, silver is virtually non-toxic."
Larry C Ford. M.D., of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UCLA School of Medicines Centre for the Health Sciences reported in a November 1988 letter: "I tested them [the silver solutions] using standard antimicrobial tests for disinfectants. The silver solutions were anti-bacterial for concentrations of 10 organisms per ml of Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria gonorrhoea, Gardnerela, Vaginalis, Salmonella typhi and other enteric pathogens and fungicidal for Candida albicans, Candida globate and m. furfur."
Biomedical researcher Robert O Becker. M.D. from Syracuse University has reported that "Silver stimulates bone-forming cells into growing new bone where it had not healed for long periods of time." Dr Becker is the author of The Body Electric and Cross Currents and is also known for his work in regenerating the amputated legs of bullfrogs.
According to Dr Becker, "Silver did more than kill disease-causing organisms, it promoted major growth of bone and accelerated the healing of injured tissues by over 50 per cent". In his research he discovered cell types that looked just like the active bone marrow of children. "These cells grew fast," he wrote, "producing a diverse and surprising assortment of primitive cell forms able to multiply at a great rate, then differentiate into the specific cells of an organ tissue that had been injured, even in patients over fifty years old. This ability overcomes the main problem of mammalian regeneration".
Dr Becker also discovered that silver profoundly stimulates healing in skin and other soft tissues in a way unlike any known natural process kills the most stubborn infections of all kinds, including surrounding bacteria and fungus. He concluded that "What we have actually done is to rediscover the fact that silver kills bacteria, which had been known for centuries when antibiotics were discovered, clinical uses for silver as an antibiotic were discarded."
Colloidal Chemistry The term 'colloid' refers to a substance that consists off ultra-fine particles that do not dissolve but remain in suspension dispersed in a continuous medium. These ultra-fine particles consist of many atoms or molecules of the original material, but so small they cannot be seen by the naked eye.
Not all types of colloidal silver are true colloids. Properly manufactured colloidal silver is a liquid solution consisting of a minuscule number (3 to 5 parts per million) of submicroscopic particles of silver, held in suspension in pure water by a tiny electrical charge placed on each particle.
In a 'true' colloid of silver, the ideal size of the silver particles falls within the range of 0.005 to 0.015 microns in diameter. The particles are animated by what is known as Brownian movement, which keeps then in suspension almost indefinitely. You could fit 1,000,000,000 of these submicroscopic particles into a cube that measures four one-hundredths of an inch or 250 thousandths to 25 millionths of an inch.
Production Methods
Many methods were used to produce colloids in the early 1900s- most commonly, the grind process and the electro colloidal process.
The main drawback to the grind method is that the silver particles are so large that they settle towards the bottom of the solution and much of the colloid's value is lost. To offset this problem, some manufacturers add a stabilizer. By so doing, the silver particles tend to settle to the bottom much more slowly. Typically, the stabilizer used is a protein.
The use of a stabilizer tends to disturb the charge on the silver particles, thereby blocking their action and reducing their effectiveness. A 'true' colloid does not require an artificial stabilizer or additive of any kind.
In recent years, the chemical process has been widely employed to replace the grind method. The chemical method provides a convenient shortcut, but it, too, falls short of the superior quality of 'true' colloidal silver. The reaction used is the reduction of a solution of a silver salt. The problem with using chemicals to produce colloids is the difficulty in getting them back out of the solution. These are powerful acid solutions which can cause negative side effects in the consumer. Also, the use of chemicals has been shown to affect the overall pH of the solution. Typically, a chemical-produced colloid of silver is quite acidic, having a pH of 4.5 to 5.5, while a 'true' colloid of silver has a pH in the range of 6.5.
The electro colloidal process allows extremely fine silver particles to be suspended in solution by the tiny charge placed on the particles. It is done by striking an electric arc between poles made of the metal under water. If done properly, this method replaces the need for any chemicals, stabilizers or proteins, so the product can be called a 'true' colloid of silver. However, much of the efficacy of the colloidal solution depends on the actual size and uniformity of silver particles. Particles that are too large may cause harm by lodging in the fine lining of the digestive tract and causing scar tissue to form.
Colour
A critical indicator of the quality of colloidal silver is colour. As the size of each silver particle gets larger, the colour of the solution ranges from yellow to brown to red to grey to black.
Colloids of silver that are produced using the proper electro colliodal method are a different colour than the grind-or chemically produced colloids, except in the case of some products that contain artificial food colouring to get the right colour. The ideal form of colloidal silver is colourless.
Biochemistry
Medical researcher Dr Gary Smith suggests that silver may be linked to the proper functioning of the body's natural defense system and that people with an inadequate intake may be more prone to illness.
Medical tests indicate no known adverse effects from the use of properly prepared colloidal silver. Indeed, there has never been a recorded case of adverse interaction with any other medication. Some lab tests have shown that 'true' colloidal silver in the range of 3 to 5 ppm (parts per million) has little effect on 'friendly' bacteria, while being highly useful against infections and in eliminating various microbes viruses and fungi. Colloidal silver that is too concentrated (above 5ppm) may upset the delicate balance of the digestive tract by destroying significant amounts of friendly bacteria.
With a 98 per cent uptake rate, colloidal minerals are much more easily assimilated compared to mineral supplements derived from crushed and processed clay rocks and soil. And unlike many vitamin and mineral supplements where a higher concentration is sometimes more beneficial, with colloidal silver and excess in quantity does not mean more quality. In fact the opposite is true.
FDA evaluation
A number of forms of colloidal silver have been officially recognized as pre-1938 drugs by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, not all forms listed were true colloids of silver because the size of the particles and the effectiveness varied markedly.
The FDA's Centre for Drug Evaluation and Research has stated: "Colloidal silver is considered to be a pre-1938 drug. These products may continue to be marketed without submitted evidence of safety and effectiveness [required of all drugs marketed after 1938] as long as they are advertised and labeled for the same use as in 1938 and as long as they are manufactured in the original manner."
Colloidal Silver Treatment
Colloidal silver is tasteless, odorless and non-stinging to sensitive tissues. It may be taken orally as well as put on a band-aid and applied directly to cuts, scrapes, sores and warts.
It may also be used as a rinse for acne, eczema and other skin irritations. It can be gargled, dropped into eyes and ears, used vaginally and anally as well as atomized and inhaled into the nose or lungs.

Who's using colloidal silver?
• In Canada, Switzerland and the US, physicians use various forms of silver to treat a multitude of infections.

Colloidal silver is one of the bulwarks of natural anti-fungal/bacterial treatments and is simple to use along with other therapeutics.
As many know, there are a whole host of diseases that are being stirred up by fungal and yeast pathogens, as well as oft-slated bacteria.
We see colloidal silver used in natural cancer treatments especially where the cancers, such as leukemia, melanoma, lymphoma and lymph sarcoma, are fungal-driven.
COLLOIDAL SILVER, A NECESSITY FOR GOOD AND BAD TIMES

You have food reserves to get you through an emergency. Some water. Probably some gold or silver. Maybe some defense weapons. But medical help will probably be no more available than food, and under these conditions, disease and infections will probably be rampant. Ordinary first aid supplies are obviously not enough.
But there is good news and its called "colloidal silver". From the time man first learned to work with silver he has known that it prevented the spread of disease. Thus the wealthy people had silver drinking cups, silver tableware and utensils. Even those who could have had gold, which does not tarnish, usually chose silver because it promoted health. In the days before refrigeration, farmers tossed a silver coin in a bucket of milk to preserve it. Chemists put a silver dime in their petri dish to sterilize it. For hundreds of years it was common practice to place a silver wire in an infected wound that refused to heal.
Eventually man learned to make silver nitrate and use it in wounds and drink it as an antibiotic. But silver nitrate is caustic and burns tissues much like iodine. Also, heavy use of silver nitrate accumulated in the skin turning it dark, a condition which became known as Argyria. Still, it was an effective treatment of disease and that was more important than Argyria
Almost every state in the union passed a law requiring every licensed doctor attending the birth of a baby to treat the babies eyes with silver nitrate. This eliminated blindness due to venereal disease which had been fairly common. Unfortunately, minor damage to the eyes from the silver nitrate is very common and blindness from too strong a dose of silver nitrate does happen.
In the early 1900's research proved silver to be effective against hundreds of pathogens of widely different kinds.
Other silver compounds were used, which were not caustic and did flat cause argyria. Then it was found that smaller particles of silver could be produced by precipitating it out of chemical compounds of silver. These were more effective due to the fact that there were hundreds of times as many particles of silver from a given amount of silver.
Eventually it was learned that silver could be reduced down to its atomic size with a positive electrical charge by using an arc under water. This is called "Breddig’s Process." This now produced thousands of particles for each one that was produced by the best grinding. It also added a positive charge which increased its effectiveness noticeably more. Furthermore, no detrimental side effects have ever been shown. It did not cause argyria, even in prolonged large dosages. It was not caustic and instead promoted healing in general. No allergic reactions were ever reported. It was highly effective for most infections of every kind. This is known as "colloidal silver." It could be produced inexpensively, but brought a good price from those who needed it and did not know how to produce it. The word "silver" immediately brings the thought of "very expensive" to peoples minds.
But it did not keep well in warehouses and on drug store shelves because of its affinity for oxygen and its positive electrical charge which dissipated with age and the electrical charge proved to noticeably increase its effectiveness for most uses. Although pure colloidal silver is as clear as water, in the presence of oxygen it turns yellow and finally dark brown. Add a little light and it quickly turns black.
Then came penicillin and sulfa, which could be patented and were therefore well worth advertising. These were soon followed by continuous new antibiotics from the pharmaceutical companies. Each one is considered effective against certain pathogens, usually no more than half a dozen.
Unlike silver, almost none of the antibiotics is effective against virus, yeasts or parasites.
The chemical antibiotics do keep well and they are usually as effective after long storage as when first produced. This, plus the fact that they could be patented, while silver could not, and therefore the producers could afford to promote them heavily, have been major factors in the general adoption of the antibiotics.
However, the antibiotics soon proved to have various side effects of varying degrees of danger. Some of the side effects are almost always experienced, while most only appear occasionally. But some of those occasional side effects are as serious as death. There are thousands of patients a year who die of an allergic reaction to penicillin, generally considered to be among the safest and most proven antibiotic. A frightening thing about this is that many of those deaths are to patients who have taken penicillin many times in their life and were not aware of any problem before.
Soon after the new antibiotics were introduced it was found that certain bacteria they were effective against developed an immunity to the antibiotic. Some developed an immunity very quickly, while others did so very slowly. Today many ofthe diseases that were thought to be easily treated by antibiotics are no longer treatable, even by new antibiotics. The researchers are running out of new replacements, leaving those diseases untreatable.
These problems now have the whole medical profession concerned, some to the point of panic. The March 28, 1994 issue of Newsweek featured a six page article, "Antibiotics, The End of Miracle Drugs?". The rise of drug resistant germs is unparalleled in recorded history", according to Newsweek. "Penicillin and tetracycline lost their power over staph back in the 1950’s and 6O’s.
Another antibiotic, methicillin, provided a backup for awhile, but methicillin-resistant staph is now common in hospitals and nursing homes worldwide... trying to cripple bacteria’s defenses...will not do more than buy us five to ten years. . . A better strategy might be to abandon antibiotics altogether in favor of different kinds of drugs." How about abandoning drugs altogether in favor of the natural silver? (Some silver colloid is found in some foods naturally)
The September, 1995 issue of Time magazine featured an article titled "Revenge of the Killer Microbes". "Faced with AIDS, and with an ever increasing number of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, doctors were forced to admit the medical profession was actually retreating in the battle against germs. The question ceased to be, when will infectious diseases be wiped out? And became, where will the next deadly new plague appear? . . . Humanity once had the hubris to think it could control or even conquer all these microbes. But anyone who reads today's headlines knows how vain that hope turned out to be. New scourges are emerging-AIDS is not the only one. . . older diseases like tuberculosis are rapidly evolving into forms that are resistant to antibiotics, . . . In 1992, 13,300 hospital patients died of infections that resisted every drug doctors tried." (Some of these patients caught the infections in the hospital)
But Science Digest was way ahead of Newsweek and Time, in an article in March 1978; "Our Mightiest Germ Fighter". Science Digest already saw the problem and had the solution! In this article, Jim Powell stated: "Thanks to eye opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps half a dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually nontoxic."
The article further relates how Dr. Carl Moyer, Chairman of Washington State university’s Department of Surgery, received a grant to develop better treatments for serious burns. Dr. Harry Margraf was Dr. Moyer's chief biochemist on this project. With their staff of medical researchers they tested 22 antiseptic compounds and rejected them all. The problem was that infections in burns often tailed to respond to antibiotics.
Most antiseptics have a very caustic nature, actually destroying the delicate new tissues and are very painful. The greatest problem was the bacterium Pseudomonas acruginose which is particularly infectious to burns and does not respond to any antibiotic or antiseptic.
It was found that silver had been used effectively for hundreds of years in one form or another to treat infection and unlike the newer antibiotics, silver had well proven itself to be totally non-toxic at all concentrations. In all the hundreds of years of use, no pathogen has ever developed an immunity to silver.
They tried silver nitrate which is used in babies' eyes. It proved to be corrosive and painful. It also stained everything badly and upset the bodies balance of body salts. Other compounds of silver were tried. Finally colloidal silver was proven to be the most effective, to have no side effects and the burns healed relatively fast with it. They then developed a salve from colloidal silver known as "Sulfadiazine", marketed under the brand name "Flamazine. Since then it has been the standard medication for burns. It has been proven to heal burns considerably faster and to greatly reduce scarring.
Another entirely unrelated line of research that guided the new thinking concerning the treatment of infections and especially wounds was published by research scientist, Dr. Robert O. Becker in his classic book "The Body Electric". Dr. Becker was researching ways to heal difficult broken bones, and especially the possibilities of growing whole new limbs to replace arms and legs too badly injured to save. While experimenting with the use of very small currents to stimulate growth, he found that silver electrodes were much more effective that any other metal and some of his experiments only worked with the silver. After considerable success in stimulating bone growth in animal experiments, Dr. Becker tried his new methods on a human patient, one who had no other choice but the amputation of his leg.
The mans' broken right tibia and fibula both refused to heal and there was a huge open wound with five kinds of infection after a year and a half of efforts by his doctors. Antibiotics were of no help. Dr. Becker states: . . . I debrided the wound, removing the dead tissue and all grossly infected or dead bone. There wasn't much left afterward. It was an enormous excavation running almost from his knee to his ankle. In the operating room we soaked a big piece of silver nylon in saline solution and laid it over the wound. . . wrapped the leg, and connected the battery unit." About a week and a half later, Dr. Becker tells us: ". . . all of our bacterial cultures were sterile-all five kinds had been killed." The battery attached to the silver nylon produced colloidal silver, as Dr. Becker later explained. The colloidal silver quickly killed off all five kinds of bacteria the antibiotics had failed to kill in a year and a half.
Dr. Becker continues: "The soft healing tissue, called granulation tissue, was spreading out and covering the bone. In two weeks, the whole base of the wound, which had been over eight square inches of raw bone, was covered by this friendly pink carpet. The skin was beginning to grow in too, so we could forget about the grafts we thought we'd need to do.
"I decided to take an X-ray to see how much bone he’d lost." (he had expected the bone to start withdrawing before it started re-growing). "I could hardly believe the picture. There was clearly some bone growth! . . . I removed the cast, felt the leg, and found that the pieces were all stuck together. John watched, and when I was done he lifted his leg into the air triumphantly."
Dr. Becker states on pg. 167; "of course, the germ-killing action of silver had been known for some time. . . the Soviets use silver ions (colloidal silver, editors note) to sterilize water aboard their space station . . . it kills even antibiotic-resistant strains, and also works on fungus infections."
These two developments suddenly started researchers all over the world looking at silver in a new light. UCLA ran tests on colloidal silver and reported: "The silver solutions were antibacterial for concentrations of 10 to the 5th power of organisms per ml of streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria gonorrhea, Gardnerella vaginalis, Salmonella typhi, and other enteric pathogens, and fungacidal for candida albacans, Candida globata, and M furfur."
Alfred Sean of Searl pharmaceuticals stated; Applying colloidal silver to human subjects has been done in a large number of cases with astonishing results. For internal administration, orally or hypodermically it has the advantage of being rapidly fatal to parasites without the toxic action on its host."
Then there are the actual results of many users of colloidal silver, perhaps not scientifically established, but authenticated by personal experience. For instance, Dr. Bjorn Nordstrom, of the Karolinsky Institute, Sweden has been using silver in his cancer treatments for many years. He says this brings rapid remission in patients given up by other doctors. How do we explain this?
Some scientists speculate that cancer is caused by a virus, but no substantial evidence of this has been established, except in cats. Does silver cure cancer by attacking the virus that causes cancer? Probably not. Rather, it's curative qualities seem closer related to it strange ability to heal injured tissues without scarring. Cancer researcher Gary Smith says he has noticed a correlation between low silver levels and sickness. He found people who have low silver levels to be frequently sick and to have frequent colds, flu, fevers and other illnesses. He states. "Success (in cancer treatment) depends on silver in the person's body when silver is present, the cancer cells dedifferentiate and the body is restored. When silver levels are. . . non-existent, the cancer growth rate. . . continues. . . because the cells cannot dedifferentiate. . . . I suspect a silver deficiency is possibly one of the reasons cancer exists and is increasing at such a rapid rate."
A full list of the results of such experiments in some of the best medical laboratories in the world are too extensive to list here.
After extensive experiments with re-growth of body parts and the healing of bone, Dr. Becker was led into other experiments with colloidal silver. Among his experiments were the effects of silver on cancer. On pg. 178 of the Body Electric, Dr. Becker states ". . . silver, which when negative had no effect on, and when positive suspended, mitosis of cancer cells in our lab." It is the positive silver ion which we call colloidal silver (Ag+1). The colloidal silver stopped the cancer growth. Other metals did not. Dr. Becker was unable to obtain the funds to continue his promising cancer research. However, he did draw a personal opinion that the effective quality of colloidal silver in both the stimulation of bone, muscle and skin growth, was its ability to cause cells to dedifferentiate when needed, just as Dr. Gary Smith concluded.
All of this makes colloidal silver perfect for survival conditions. It has such a broad spectrum of effectiveness (practically all bacteria, virus, yeasts, molds, parasites) and at the same time has a miraculous healing quality. Most people taking it orally say they feel better and notice more energy. It even prevents plaque from forming on teeth. Therefore, an exact diagnosis is not required as with antibiotics. If the mouth is rinsed with one ounce daily and then swallowed, the plaque is stopped, gingivitis is soon healed, the breath is sweet, colds and flues are gone, candida is soon cleared up, yeast infections of the blood disappear, the immune system is restored! Internal surgeries heal much faster and with much less scarring!
But some of the best news is that now we have learned that colloidal silver can be produced very easily and very inexpensively electrically. The definition of "colloidal silver" is "one atom of silver with a positive electrical charge" and it is written Ag+l.
With a modern, low cost colloidal silver generator, all that is required to produce the finest colloidal silver of known quality, concentration and freshness is to fill a bottle with distilled water, press a button, wait about half an hour until the generator signals it is done. It is then ready when you are.
Colloidal silver can be used orally, topically, by enema, douche, or by a doctor intravenously. The exact dosage is not critical because it is non-toxic at virtually all levels. However, common practice is to start orally with about one ounce a day at 20 parts per million as a maintenance dosage. When treating a chronic internal condition, that dosage could be doubled each day until a dosage of four ounces in the morning and four ounces in the evening at 20 parts per million is reached.
Always watch for a rash breaking out on the skin when first taking colloidal silver. This is not an allergic reaction or a side effect in the common sense. It is usually caused by killing off yeast in the blood or intestines so fast that the body cannot properly dispose of them. It is a healthy sign but may be very uncomfortable due to itching. Furthermore, you do not want to overload the body's cleansing abilities. Therefore it is best to reduce the intake of colloidal silver when this occurs. when the rash disappears, as it normally does in a day or so, gradually increase it.
Colloidal silver is especially valuable in case of disaster as well as whenever camping or traveling because the water often cannot be trusted. One ounce of colloidal silver at 20 parts per million in one quart of water assures the safety of the water for drinking. It is the finest disinfectant known, being totally non-toxic and non allergenic as well an non-caustic. Used on the scalp, it stops most cases of itching. It is great for the hands and face and reduces skin wrinkling over a period of time. It heals warts (virus), athletes foot, and nail fungus. It effectively treats many skin rashes although some rashes get worse before getting better.
Colloidal silver is rapidly being adopted into several areas of agriculture. In a news release from Orem Utah, we read: "Mastitis has been curable for quite some time using antibiotics. The only problem was that during the cure, the cows often went off feed, sometimes suffering from a high fever, and their milk had to be thrown away. Not long ago, some dairy farmers in Wisconsin tried a new product (colloidal silver) that has had some astonishing results. Not only do the cows not go off feed when administered this product, their udders don't swell and they don't get high the fevers usually associated with mastitis. And the best part is that the milk doesn't have to be thrown away during treatment as with antibiotics."
In fact, when the dairymen found out what colloidal silver could do without any side effects a large segment of the dairy industry soon began wading the cows through pools of colloidal silver to and from each milking to cure the serious problem of hoof wart, changing the water daily and then began putting colloidal silver into all the drinking water. One dairyman called me wanting equipment to produce 33,000 gallons of colloidal silver a day! Farmers take better care of their livestock than they do their families.
Treating the soil around young plant roots makes them grow more vigorously and healthier. Spraying leaf fungus with colloidal silver is highly effective and very economical. Furthermore it does not leave any toxic residue on the plant or fruit and its effects are more lasting than most sprays.
Colloidal silver can be purchased from most health food stores for about $4 an ounce and for less by mail order However, much of what is sold for colloidal silver is actually mostly silver chloride. While silver chloride has anti-bacterial qualities, why not have the real thing?
In case of crisis you will not be able to buy colloidal silver. Besides that, you can make your own for little more than the price of the water and you can make a better quality than you can buy and know it is fresh. You will also know the quality is good.
To make colloidal silver just put distilled water in the generator if distilled water is available.
Different brands of generators are slightly different to use, but the main difference is the time it takes to produce a certain concentration. With battery operated generators follow the directions with the generator for time of treatment. It does not take long, so don't forget it. With an electronic generator just add the water, plug into the wall socket, set the concentration you want on the dial and press the start button, then forget it. When the run light goes out its ready and you can remove the finished silver when you are ready.
When buying a generator, check to see how much silver is in the electrodes; do the electrodes have to be carefully adjusted each time or are they built in place? Do you have to clamp the electrodes on with alligator clips or are the electrodes built in so as to take care of these problems? And if it is battery operated, check to see if the batteries are economical and widely available.
Some use miniature high voltage batteries that do not last and are hard to find. Does the generator work without salt and without very careful adjustment? If it requires salt of tap water it will produce mostly silver chloride instead of colloidal silver. Generators that produce mostly silver chloride run very clean and very fast, but you really want colloidal silver, not silver chloride.
A carefully designed generator will produce genuine colloidal silver clean up to about 80 parts per million before noticeable silver oxides begins to form. Should silver oxides (black deposits) form heavily in your generator the black will stick to the bottle and separate out easily. The black oxide can be easily wiped out when it is still wet. If it dries, wipe it out with some baking soda on a wet towel.
In selecting the right generator for you, several things should be considered. Are you primarily concerned with a generator that will be available when there is no electricity available, severe emergency conditions? If so you will want a battery powered generator. The standard 9 volt alkaline batteries are best as they last a long time and are easily obtained at a low price. The generator uses so little power that the life of the batteries is almost like setting on the shelf.
However, it is wise to have some batteries other that those in the generator as a back up in time of emergency. If you are looking for a generator for dependable consistency of operation very easy operation and a known concentration of product, an electronic generator is the answer and is preferable for everyday use.
In treating contaminated water, you can make colloidal silver of satisfactory quality from the contaminated water. This colloidal silver can then be used to treat more contaminated water by using one ounce of the colloidal silver at 20 parts per million in a quart of water. This is dependably safe for all purposes.
Don't go camping or to foreign countries without your colloidal silver.

Historical Background and Research
Silver has long been known for its special properties. The people of ancient Greece and Rome used silver containers for keeping liquids fresh. Through the centuries royal households carried on this practice by storing their provisions in silver containers. Privileged family members used silver eating utensils: they had their meals served on silver plates and their drinks served in sliver cups. Indeed, the skin of 'blue bloods' reportedly had a bluish tinge due to the minute traces of pure metallic silver they regularly consumed. In American pioneering days, new settlers traveling to the West would put silver dollars in their milk to delay spoiling.
By the turn of the 20th Century, silver was regarded as a proven germ-fighter. In medicine, a solution known as colloidal silver was commonly used as a mainstay of bacterial treatment. Although considered to be 'high tech' at that time, the type of solution used was technically inferior to today's colloidal silver solutions. One of the drawbacks was that the particle size of the silver never reached its optimum ultramicroscopic size and thus its highest levels of absorption.
Back then, highly effective colloidal silver was very expensive to produce. The pharmaceutical industry wanted faster-working drugs that were cheaper and patentable. In addition, when manufactured improperly or taken at hundreds of times the proper dosage with extraneous silver compounds included, a permanent skin discolouration called argyria could result. For these reasons, colloidal silver fell out of favour. Even so, prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet (1914) published the results of scientific studies and examined the many successful uses of colloidal silver.
In 1910, Dr Henry Crooks a pioneer in colloidal chemistry wrote that: "certain metals, when in a colloidal state, have a highly germicidal action but are quite harmless to human beings it may be applied in a much more concentrated form and with better results. Bronchial tuberculosis, Staphylococcus pyogenes, various Streptococci and other pathogenic organisms are all killed in three to four minutes: in fact no microbe is known that is not killed by this colloid in laboratory experiments in six minutes, [and] the concentration of the [silver] does not exceed twenty-five parts per million."
In 1919, Alfred Searle, founder of the pharmaceutical conglomerate of the same name, wrote in his book The Use of Colloids in Health and Disease that: "applying colloidal silver to human subjects has been done in a large number of cases with astonishingly successful results. For internal administration, orally or hypodermically it has the advantage of being rapidly fatal to parasites without toxic action on its host. It is quite stable."
Colloidal Silver Reappraised
Much later in the 1970's colloidal silver once again became a valued substance. Doctors at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, stumbled upon it while searching for effective treatments for burns victims, having tried many other medicines.
Biomedical research has shown that no known disease causing organism-bacteria, virus or fungus can live for more than a few minutes in the presence of even minute traces of metallic silver.
Jim Powell reported in an article, 'Our Mightiest Germ fighter' published in Science Digest (March 1078, pp. 59-60): "Thanks to eye-opening research silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine.
An antibiotic kills perhaps a half-dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. What's more, resistant strains fail to develop when using silver. Moreover, silver is virtually non-toxic."
Larry C Ford. M.D., of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UCLA School of Medicines Centre for the Health Sciences reported in a November 1988 letter: "I tested them [the silver solutions] using standard antimicrobial tests for disinfectants. The silver solutions were anti-bacterial for concentrations of 10 organisms per ml of Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria gonorrhoea, Gardnerela, Vaginalis, Salmonella typhi and other enteric pathogens and fungicidal for Candida albicans, Candida globate and m. furfur."
Biomedical researcher Robert O Becker. M.D. from Syracuse University has reported that "Silver stimulates bone-forming cells into growing new bone where it had not healed for long periods of time." Dr Becker is the author of The Body Electric and Cross Currents and is also known for his work in regenerating the amputated legs of bullfrogs.
According to Dr Becker, "Silver did more than kill disease-causing organisms, it promoted major growth of bone and accelerated the healing of injured tissues by over 50 per cent". In his research he discovered cell types that looked just like the active bone marrow of children. "These cells grew fast," he wrote, "producing a diverse and surprising assortment of primitive cell forms able to multiply at a great rate, then differentiate into the specific cells of an organ tissue that had been injured, even in patients over fifty years old. This ability overcomes the main problem of mammalian regeneration".
Dr Becker also discovered that silver profoundly stimulates healing in skin and other soft tissues in a way unlike any known natural process kills the most stubborn infections of all kinds, including surrounding bacteria and fungus. He concluded that "What we have actually done is to rediscover the fact that silver kills bacteria, which had been known for centuries when antibiotics were discovered, clinical uses for silver as an antibiotic were discarded."
Colloidal Chemistry The term 'colloid' refers to a substance that consists off ultra-fine particles that do not dissolve but remain in suspension dispersed in a continuous medium. These ultra-fine particles consist of many atoms or molecules of the original material, but so small they cannot be seen by the naked eye.
Not all types of colloidal silver are true colloids. Properly manufactured colloidal silver is a liquid solution consisting of a minuscule number (3 to 5 parts per million) of submicroscopic particles of silver, held in suspension in pure water by a tiny electrical charge placed on each particle.
In a 'true' colloid of silver, the ideal size of the silver particles falls within the range of 0.005 to 0.015 microns in diameter. The particles are animated by what is known as Brownian movement, which keeps then in suspension almost indefinitely. You could fit 1,000,000,000 of these submicroscopic particles into a cube that measures four one-hundredths of an inch or 250 thousandths to 25 millionths of an inch.
Production Methods
Many methods were used to produce colloids in the early 1900s- most commonly, the grind process and the electro colloidal process.
The main drawback to the grind method is that the silver particles are so large that they settle towards the bottom of the solution and much of the colloid's value is lost. To offset this problem, some manufacturers add a stabilizer. By so doing, the silver particles tend to settle to the bottom much more slowly. Typically, the stabilizer used is a protein.
The use of a stabilizer tends to disturb the charge on the silver particles, thereby blocking their action and reducing their effectiveness. A 'true' colloid does not require an artificial stabilizer or additive of any kind.
In recent years, the chemical process has been widely employed to replace the grind method. The chemical method provides a convenient shortcut, but it, too, falls short of the superior quality of 'true' colloidal silver. The reaction used is the reduction of a solution of a silver salt. The problem with using chemicals to produce colloids is the difficulty in getting them back out of the solution. These are powerful acid solutions which can cause negative side effects in the consumer. Also, the use of chemicals has been shown to affect the overall pH of the solution. Typically, a chemical-produced colloid of silver is quite acidic, having a pH of 4.5 to 5.5, while a 'true' colloid of silver has a pH in the range of 6.5.
The electro colloidal process allows extremely fine silver particles to be suspended in solution by the tiny charge placed on the particles. It is done by striking an electric arc between poles made of the metal under water. If done properly, this method replaces the need for any chemicals, stabilizers or proteins, so the product can be called a 'true' colloid of silver. However, much of the efficacy of the colloidal solution depends on the actual size and uniformity of silver particles. Particles that are too large may cause harm by lodging in the fine lining of the digestive tract and causing scar tissue to form.
Colour
A critical indicator of the quality of colloidal silver is colour. As the size of each silver particle gets larger, the colour of the solution ranges from yellow to brown to red to grey to black.
Colloids of silver that are produced using the proper electro colliodal method are a different colour than the grind-or chemically produced colloids, except in the case of some products that contain artificial food colouring to get the right colour. The ideal form of colloidal silver is colourless.
Biochemistry
Medical researcher Dr Gary Smith suggests that silver may be linked to the proper functioning of the body's natural defense system and that people with an inadequate intake may be more prone to illness.
Medical tests indicate no known adverse effects from the use of properly prepared colloidal silver. Indeed, there has never been a recorded case of adverse interaction with any other medication. Some lab tests have shown that 'true' colloidal silver in the range of 3 to 5 ppm (parts per million) has little effect on 'friendly' bacteria, while being highly useful against infections and in eliminating various microbes viruses and fungi. Colloidal silver that is too concentrated (above 5ppm) may upset the delicate balance of the digestive tract by destroying significant amounts of friendly bacteria.
With a 98 per cent uptake rate, colloidal minerals are much more easily assimilated compared to mineral supplements derived from crushed and processed clay rocks and soil. And unlike many vitamin and mineral supplements where a higher concentration is sometimes more beneficial, with colloidal silver and excess in quantity does not mean more quality. In fact the opposite is true.
FDA evaluation
A number of forms of colloidal silver have been officially recognized as pre-1938 drugs by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, not all forms listed were true colloids of silver because the size of the particles and the effectiveness varied markedly.
The FDA's Centre for Drug Evaluation and Research has stated: "Colloidal silver is considered to be a pre-1938 drug. These products may continue to be marketed without submitted evidence of safety and effectiveness [required of all drugs marketed after 1938] as long as they are advertised and labeled for the same use as in 1938 and as long as they are manufactured in the original manner."
Colloidal Silver Treatment
Colloidal silver is tasteless, odorless and non-stinging to sensitive tissues. It may be taken orally as well as put on a band-aid and applied directly to cuts, scrapes, sores and warts.
It may also be used as a rinse for acne, eczema and other skin irritations. It can be gargled, dropped into eyes and ears, used vaginally and anally as well as atomized and inhaled into the nose or lungs.

Who's using colloidal silver?
• In Canada, Switzerland and the US, physicians use various forms of silver to treat a multitude of infections.
• In the US, silver is used in bone surgery and in 70 per cent of US burns centers.
• Naturopaths and chiropractors use colloidal silver to treat the effects of Cryptosporidium. Ayurvedic and Chinese practitioners regularly use silver in their treatments.
• Colloidal silver water filters are approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency and also by the Swiss government for use in homes and offices.
• The American space agency NASA uses a silver water purification system for its space shuttles, as do the Russians.

Colloidal silver is one of the bulwarks of natural anti-fungal/bacterial treatments and is simple to use along with other therapeutics.
As many know, there are a whole host of diseases that are being stirred up by fungal and yeast pathogens, as well as oft-slated bacteria.
We see colloidal silver used in natural cancer treatments especially where the cancers, such as leukemia, melanoma, lymphoma and lymph sarcoma, are fungal-driven.
COLLOIDAL SILVER, A NECESSITY FOR GOOD AND BAD TIMES

You have food reserves to get you through an emergency. Some water. Probably some gold or silver. Maybe some defense weapons. But medical help will probably be no more available than food, and under these conditions, disease and infections will probably be rampant. Ordinary first aid supplies are obviously not enough.
But there is good news and its called "colloidal silver". From the time man first learned to work with silver he has known that it prevented the spread of disease. Thus the wealthy people had silver drinking cups, silver tableware and utensils. Even those who could have had gold, which does not tarnish, usually chose silver because it promoted health. In the days before refrigeration, farmers tossed a silver coin in a bucket of milk to preserve it. Chemists put a silver dime in their petri dish to sterilize it. For hundreds of years it was common practice to place a silver wire in an infected wound that refused to heal.
Eventually man learned to make silver nitrate and use it in wounds and drink it as an antibiotic. But silver nitrate is caustic and burns tissues much like iodine. Also, heavy use of silver nitrate accumulated in the skin turning it dark, a condition which became known as Argyria. Still, it was an effective treatment of disease and that was more important than Argyria
Almost every state in the union passed a law requiring every licensed doctor attending the birth of a baby to treat the babies eyes with silver nitrate. This eliminated blindness due to venereal disease which had been fairly common. Unfortunately, minor damage to the eyes from the silver nitrate is very common and blindness from too strong a dose of silver nitrate does happen.
In the early 1900's research proved silver to be effective against hundreds of pathogens of widely different kinds.
Other silver compounds were used, which were not caustic and did flat cause argyria. Then it was found that smaller particles of silver could be produced by precipitating it out of chemical compounds of silver. These were more effective due to the fact that there were hundreds of times as many particles of silver from a given amount of silver.
Eventually it was learned that silver could be reduced down to its atomic size with a positive electrical charge by using an arc under water. This is called "Breddig’s Process." This now produced thousands of particles for each one that was produced by the best grinding. It also added a positive charge which increased its effectiveness noticeably more. Furthermore, no detrimental side effects have ever been shown. It did not cause argyria, even in prolonged large dosages. It was not caustic and instead promoted healing in general. No allergic reactions were ever reported. It was highly effective for most infections of every kind. This is known as "colloidal silver." It could be produced inexpensively, but brought a good price from those who needed it and did not know how to produce it. The word "silver" immediately brings the thought of "very expensive" to peoples minds.
But it did not keep well in warehouses and on drug store shelves because of its affinity for oxygen and its positive electrical charge which dissipated with age and the electrical charge proved to noticeably increase its effectiveness for most uses. Although pure colloidal silver is as clear as water, in the presence of oxygen it turns yellow and finally dark brown. Add a little light and it quickly turns black.
Then came penicillin and sulfa, which could be patented and were therefore well worth advertising. These were soon followed by continuous new antibiotics from the pharmaceutical companies. Each one is considered effective against certain pathogens, usually no more than half a dozen.
Unlike silver, almost none of the antibiotics is effective against virus, yeasts or parasites.
The chemical antibiotics do keep well and they are usually as effective after long storage as when first produced. This, plus the fact that they could be patented, while silver could not, and therefore the producers could afford to promote them heavily, have been major factors in the general adoption of the antibiotics.
However, the antibiotics soon proved to have various side effects of varying degrees of danger. Some of the side effects are almost always experienced, while most only appear occasionally. But some of those occasional side effects are as serious as death. There are thousands of patients a year who die of an allergic reaction to penicillin, generally considered to be among the safest and most proven antibiotic. A frightening thing about this is that many of those deaths are to patients who have taken penicillin many times in their life and were not aware of any problem before.
Soon after the new antibiotics were introduced it was found that certain bacteria they were effective against developed an immunity to the antibiotic. Some developed an immunity very quickly, while others did so very slowly. Today many ofthe diseases that were thought to be easily treated by antibiotics are no longer treatable, even by new antibiotics. The researchers are running out of new replacements, leaving those diseases untreatable.
These problems now have the whole medical profession concerned, some to the point of panic. The March 28, 1994 issue of Newsweek featured a six page article, "Antibiotics, The End of Miracle Drugs?". The rise of drug resistant germs is unparalleled in recorded history", according to Newsweek. "Penicillin and tetracycline lost their power over staph back in the 1950’s and 6O’s.
Another antibiotic, methicillin, provided a backup for awhile, but methicillin-resistant staph is now common in hospitals and nursing homes worldwide... trying to cripple bacteria’s defenses...will not do more than buy us five to ten years. . . A better strategy might be to abandon antibiotics altogether in favor of different kinds of drugs." How about abandoning drugs altogether in favor of the natural silver? (Some silver colloid is found in some foods naturally)
The September, 1995 issue of Time magazine featured an article titled "Revenge of the Killer Microbes". "Faced with AIDS, and with an ever increasing number of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, doctors were forced to admit the medical profession was actually retreating in the battle against germs. The question ceased to be, when will infectious diseases be wiped out? And became, where will the next deadly new plague appear? . . . Humanity once had the hubris to think it could control or even conquer all these microbes. But anyone who reads today's headlines knows how vain that hope turned out to be. New scourges are emerging-AIDS is not the only one. . . older diseases like tuberculosis are rapidly evolving into forms that are resistant to antibiotics, . . . In 1992, 13,300 hospital patients died of infections that resisted every drug doctors tried." (Some of these patients caught the infections in the hospital)
But Science Digest was way ahead of Newsweek and Time, in an article in March 1978; "Our Mightiest Germ Fighter". Science Digest already saw the problem and had the solution! In this article, Jim Powell stated: "Thanks to eye opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps half a dozen different disease organisms, but silver kills some 650. Resistant strains fail to develop. Moreover, silver is virtually nontoxic."
The article further relates how Dr. Carl Moyer, Chairman of Washington State university’s Department of Surgery, received a grant to develop better treatments for serious burns. Dr. Harry Margraf was Dr. Moyer's chief biochemist on this project. With their staff of medical researchers they tested 22 antiseptic compounds and rejected them all. The problem was that infections in burns often tailed to respond to antibiotics.
Most antiseptics have a very caustic nature, actually destroying the delicate new tissues and are very painful. The greatest problem was the bacterium Pseudomonas acruginose which is particularly infectious to burns and does not respond to any antibiotic or antiseptic.
It was found that silver had been used effectively for hundreds of years in one form or another to treat infection and unlike the newer antibiotics, silver had well proven itself to be totally non-toxic at all concentrations. In all the hundreds of years of use, no pathogen has ever developed an immunity to silver.
They tried silver nitrate which is used in babies' eyes. It proved to be corrosive and painful. It also stained everything badly and upset the bodies balance of body salts. Other compounds of silver were tried. Finally colloidal silver was proven to be the most effective, to have no side effects and the burns healed relatively fast with it. They then developed a salve from colloidal silver known as "Sulfadiazine", marketed under the brand name "Flamazine. Since then it has been the standard medication for burns. It has been proven to heal burns considerably faster and to greatly reduce scarring.
Another entirely unrelated line of research that guided the new thinking concerning the treatment of infections and especially wounds was published by research scientist, Dr. Robert O. Becker in his classic book "The Body Electric". Dr. Becker was researching ways to heal difficult broken bones, and especially the possibilities of growing whole new limbs to replace arms and legs too badly injured to save. While experimenting with the use of very small currents to stimulate growth, he found that silver electrodes were much more effective that any other metal and some of his experiments only worked with the silver. After considerable success in stimulating bone growth in animal experiments, Dr. Becker tried his new methods on a human patient, one who had no other choice but the amputation of his leg.
The mans' broken right tibia and fibula both refused to heal and there was a huge open wound with five kinds of infection after a year and a half of efforts by his doctors. Antibiotics were of no help. Dr. Becker states: . . . I debrided the wound, removing the dead tissue and all grossly infected or dead bone. There wasn't much left afterward. It was an enormous excavation running almost from his knee to his ankle. In the operating room we soaked a big piece of silver nylon in saline solution and laid it over the wound. . . wrapped the leg, and connected the battery unit." About a week and a half later, Dr. Becker tells us: ". . . all of our bacterial cultures were sterile-all five kinds had been killed." The battery attached to the silver nylon produced colloidal silver, as Dr. Becker later explained. The colloidal silver quickly killed off all five kinds of bacteria the antibiotics had failed to kill in a year and a half.
Dr. Becker continues: "The soft healing tissue, called granulation tissue, was spreading out and covering the bone. In two weeks, the whole base of the wound, which had been over eight square inches of raw bone, was covered by this friendly pink carpet. The skin was beginning to grow in too, so we could forget about the grafts we thought we'd need to do.
"I decided to take an X-ray to see how much bone he’d lost." (he had expected the bone to start withdrawing before it started re-growing). "I could hardly believe the picture. There was clearly some bone growth! . . . I removed the cast, felt the leg, and found that the pieces were all stuck together. John watched, and when I was done he lifted his leg into the air triumphantly."
Dr. Becker states on pg. 167; "of course, the germ-killing action of silver had been known for some time. . . the Soviets use silver ions (colloidal silver, editors note) to sterilize water aboard their space station . . . it kills even antibiotic-resistant strains, and also works on fungus infections."
These two developments suddenly started researchers all over the world looking at silver in a new light. UCLA ran tests on colloidal silver and reported: "The silver solutions were antibacterial for concentrations of 10 to the 5th power of organisms per ml of streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria gonorrhea, Gardnerella vaginalis, Salmonella typhi, and other enteric pathogens, and fungacidal for candida albacans, Candida globata, and M furfur."

Then there are the actual results of many users of colloidal silver, perhaps not scientifically established, but authenticated by personal experience. For instance, Dr. Bjorn Nordstrom, of the Karolinsky Institute, Sweden has been using silver in his cancer treatments for many years. He says this brings rapid remission in patients given up by other doctors. How do we explain this?
Some scientists speculate that cancer is caused by a virus, but no substantial evidence of this has been established, except in cats. Does silver cure cancer by attacking the virus that causes cancer? Probably not. Rather, it's curative qualities seem closer related to it strange ability to heal injured tissues without scarring. Cancer researcher Gary Smith says he has noticed a correlation between low silver levels and sickness. He found people who have low silver levels to be frequently sick and to have frequent colds, flu, fevers and other illnesses. He states. "Success (in cancer treatment) depends on silver in the person's body when silver is present, the cancer cells dedifferentiate and the body is restored. When silver levels are. . . non-existent, the cancer growth rate. . . continues. . . because the cells cannot dedifferentiate. . . . I suspect a silver deficiency is possibly one of the reasons cancer exists and is increasing at such a rapid rate."
A full list of the results of such experiments in some of the best medical laboratories in the world are too extensive to list here.
After extensive experiments with re-growth of body parts and the healing of bone, Dr. Becker was led into other experiments with colloidal silver. Among his experiments were the effects of silver on cancer. On pg. 178 of the Body Electric, Dr. Becker states ". . . silver, which when negative had no effect on, and when positive suspended, mitosis of cancer cells in our lab." It is the positive silver ion which we call colloidal silver (Ag+1). The colloidal silver stopped the cancer growth. Other metals did not. Dr. Becker was unable to obtain the funds to continue his promising cancer research. However, he did draw a personal opinion that the effective quality of colloidal silver in both the stimulation of bone, muscle and skin growth, was its ability to cause cells to dedifferentiate when needed, just as Dr. Gary Smith concluded.
All of this makes colloidal silver perfect for survival conditions. It has such a broad spectrum of effectiveness (practically all bacteria, virus, yeasts, molds, parasites) and at the same time has a miraculous healing quality. Most people taking it orally say they feel better and notice more energy. It even prevents plaque from forming on teeth. Therefore, an exact diagnosis is not required as with antibiotics. With a modern, low cost colloidal silver generator, all that is required to produce the finest colloidal silver of known quality, concentration and freshness is to fill a bottle with distilled water, press a button, wait about half an hour until the generator signals it is done. It is then ready when you are.
Colloidal silver can be used orally, topically, by enema, douche, or by a doctor intravenously. The exact dosage is not critical because it is non-toxic at virtually all levels. However, common practice is to start orally with about one ounce a day at 20 parts per million as a maintenance dosage. Colloidal silver can be purchased from most health food stores for about $4 an ounce and for less by mail order However, much of what is sold for colloidal silver is actually mostly silver chloride. While silver chloride has anti-bacterial qualities, why not have the real thing?
In case of crisis you will not be able to buy colloidal silver. Besides that, you can make your own for little more than the price of the water and you can make a better quality than you can buy and know it is fresh. You will also know the quality is good.
To make colloidal silver just put distilled water in the generator if distilled water is available.
Different brands of generators are slightly different to use, but the main difference is the time it takes to produce a certain concentration. With battery operated generators follow the directions with the generator for time of treatment. It does not take long, so don't forget it. With an electronic generator just add the water, plug into the wall socket, set the concentration you want on the dial and press the start button, then forget it. When the run light goes out its ready and you can remove the finished silver when you are ready.
When buying a generator, check to see how much silver is in the electrodes; do the electrodes have to be carefully adjusted each time or are they built in place? Do you have to clamp the electrodes on with alligator clips or are the electrodes built in so as to take care of these problems? And if it is battery operated, check to see if the batteries are economical and widely available.
Some use miniature high voltage batteries that do not last and are hard to find. Does the generator work without salt and without very careful adjustment? If it requires salt of tap water it will produce mostly silver chloride instead of colloidal silver. Generators that produce mostly silver chloride run very clean and very fast, but you really want colloidal silver, not silver chloride.
A carefully designed generator will produce genuine colloidal silver clean up to about 80 parts per million before noticeable silver oxides begins to form. Should silver oxides (black deposits) form heavily in your generator the black will stick to the bottle and separate out easily. The black oxide can be easily wiped out when it is still wet. If it dries, wipe it out with some baking soda on a wet towel.
In selecting the right generator for you, several things should be considered. Are you primarily concerned with a generator that will be available when there is no electricity available, severe emergency conditions? If so you will want a battery powered generator. The standard 9 volt alkaline batteries are best as they last a long time and are easily obtained at a low price. The generator uses so little power that the life of the batteries is almost like setting on the shelf.
However, it is wise to have some batteries other that those in the generator as a back up in time of emergency. If you are looking for a generator for dependable consistency of operation very easy operation and a known concentration of product, an electronic generator is the answer and is preferable for everyday use.
In treating contaminated water, you can make colloidal silver of satisfactory quality from the contaminated water. This colloidal silver can then be used to treat more contaminated water by using one ounce of the colloidal silver at 20 parts per million in a quart of water. This is dependably safe for all purposes.
Don't go camping or to foreign countries without your colloidal silver.
